- Penn-Jersey Haiti Recovery

Pictures from prior trips                                                Responses in 2010

Information for those interested in participating in the on-going Penn-Jersey response.

Recovery from the devastating earthquake of January 2010 is continuing, and Penn-Jersey has been an active participant.  The District response in 2010 and some pictures from our involvement are highlighted on other pages.

The building of interim structures for worship and fellowship continues, and additional opportunities have been identified.

Even prior to the earthquake, plans were being developed for a new hospital in Anse-a-Galet on La Gonave; earthquake damage to the current hospital has increased the urgency of this project.  Since the new hospital will be situated near the old guesthouse, a new guesthouse is under construction and must be completed before hospital construction can begin.

Recently another property has been made available that will ideally serve as a training facility for national pastors, a respite accommodation for missionary rest and rejuvenation, and a residence for a missionary family.  Located on the beach near the Wesleyan wharf on the mainland, this property includes two roomy houses and ample grounds.  The buildings were not damaged by the earthquake, but they have been uninhabited for several years.  Significant remodeling as well as upgrading of electrical and plumbing systems is needed.

A team of up to 12 individuals is being recruited for this work.

  •   The 2-week trip is scheduled for October 13-27, 2011.
  •   The per person budget for the trip is $1600 (NOT including passport and immunizations expenses).
  •   Team training sessions have been scheduled for:
                   August 27
                   September 17
                   October 1
Potential team members should review the information on this page and submit the "Team Member Information" document to the District office.

Each team member is expected to raise $1600 for trip expenses.  The first payment of $900 must be in hand by September 1; the remaining $700 must be in hand by September 30.
